Antigonish is a small town with a population of ~5000 residents located on the Northeastern shore of Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada.  In addition to being the home of St. Francis Xavier University (est. 1853), Antigonish is also home to the oldest continual Highland Games outside of Scotland.  Located 160 km from Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia, Antigonish offers all of the necessary amenities, including 2 supermarkets, a shopping centre, several pharmacies and department stores, as well as several local pubs and eating establishments to test the local Nova Scotia cuisine.

St. Francis Xavier University, StFX or X, as it is affectionately referred to by the local community, is a primarily undergraduate institution that is home to close to 5000 students during the September – April academic year (yes, the population of the town doubles!!).  It is well renowned for its close knit “Xavierian family” and the ever popular X-RING that is, undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the year for both senior students and faculty alike.  The X-RING is said to be the third most recognized ring in the world, next to the Super Bowl and Papal rings.  StFX is consistently recognized and prides itself on its world-class undergraduate educational experience, a feat that does not go unnoticed.  In the 2015 Maclean’s National University Rankings, StFX was named #5 in the category of “Best Primarily Undergraduate Universities in Canada.  In addition, Maclean’s hosted a National Student Poll, where StFX ranked #1 in the categories of “Where Professors Know Your Name” and “Schools that Make You Job Ready” and ranked #2 in the category “Schools that Help You Become a Strong Writer”.
