The Department was well represented at ChemCon2023 - hosted by CBU. Leah, Lauren and Victor all presented posters. Victor won best undergrad poster in the Macromolecules Division. Congrats Victor, and well done to everyone on their hard work!

Our summer research has been approved for support from Clean Nova Scotia and the Province of Nova Scotia through the Clean Technologies and BOLD wage subsidy programs. Thank you to both programs for supporting advances in undergraduate research!

Jill successfully defends her BSc Honours thesis on plasmonic phenol generation

Kogie successfully defended his BSc Honours thesis on novel light-activated bismuth oxide materials for plastics degradation.

Leah defended her MSc proposal on sustainable nitroarene reductions.

Brooke and Lauren were awarded NSERC USRA for the upcoming summer and Victor was awarded a Scotia Scholar's award. Congrats to all!

StFX hosted ScienceAtlantic ChemCon 2022, virtually. Megan and Yashodha both presented their work. Megan won 2nd prize in the Undergrad Organic Division and Yashodha 3rd place in the Graduate Materials Division for their oral presentations. Congrats to both of you!

Marisa arrives from Valencia Spain as a 2023 Visiting James Chair Researcher after several years delay due to COVID. Looking forward to 6-weeks of productive research.

The Lab was well represented at ChemCon2023 hosted by Dalhousie University. Jill, Julia, and Yashodha presented posters, while Julia and Megan presented talks. Both Jill and Julia won for best undergraduate and graduate poster, respectively, in the Physical Chemistry division. Well done to everyone on their hard work!

Our publication with Erwan, Brian, Jenna and Tracy on the photo-thermally activated antimicrobial silver nanoparicles was accepted for publication in Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research. Congrats to all involved!!

Jazmin arrives from Cordoba to work on expanding our work on nanomaterials for bacterial detection. Unfortunately she worked mostly alone due to the emerging global COVID wave, but productive discussion was had virtually.

Mackenzie, Megan and Darian all present their preliminary findings at the annual ScienceAtlantic ChemCon, hosted, virtually, by Mount Allison University. Mackenzie and Megan both presented posters and Darian and oral presentation. Megan was awarded 2nd prize in the undergraduate organic poster division and Darian was awarded 3rd prize in the undergraduate organic oral talk division. Congrats to all of you on a job well done!

Yashodha and Julia are both accepted into the MSc Program at StFX. Both will join our group in September 2021. Julia is also the recipient of a Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship for the 2021/2022 academic year.
