The Group attended ChemCon2025 at UPEI. Anna, Lauren and Sydney all received best poster awards for their presentations, while Leah received a best oral presentation award for her talk on her MSc research. Congrats to all!

Our work with Dr. Charles Crites and Dr. Netto-Ferreira on dual catalytic lignin depolymerization was published as an invited article in J. Braz. Chem. Congrats to all on this fun research adventure!

Leah has left us for 3 months to visit the labs of Dr. Marin and Dr. Bosca at ITQ in Spain on a Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement supplied through the NSERC CGS-M program. Good luck, Leah and enjoy the experience!

Marisa arrives from Valencia Spain as a 2023 Visiting James Chair Researcher after several years delay due to COVID. Looking forward to 6-weeks of productive research.

The Lab was well represented at ChemCon2023 hosted by Dalhousie University. Jill, Julia, and Yashodha presented posters, while Julia and Megan presented talks. Both Jill and Julia won for best undergraduate and graduate poster, respectively, in the Physical Chemistry division. Well done to everyone on their hard work!

GHT, Erwan and Gerry are co-applicants on a large CFI application for infrastructure to support the growth of a Functional Materials Centre at StFX! Fingers crossed.

Our James Chair Research Fund application in collaboration with the Foo Group for the establishment of culturing infrastructure in our building was approved.

Ella, Scarlett, Makayla, Zoe and GHT all attended ICASS2026 in Halifax. Ella, Scarlett, Makayla and Zoe presented posters with Ella taking home an award for top poster presentation (as one of the few undergraduate presenters!!). GHT gave an invited talk the benefits of cuprous oxide nanomaterials as a cost effective photocatalyst alternative.

GHT and Erwan Bertin were awarded a Innovation Nova Scotia Tier I Productivity and Innovation Voucher for a newly established collaboration with GreenEarth Technologies. Looking forward to a productive partnership!

Our work with the Bertin lab group examining the use use of photothermally active AgNP/metal oxide hybrids for PFAs decontamination was accepted for as an invited contribution ChemPlusChem. Congrats to all!

Ongoing successes with Victor's project! Working investigating the "Allergold" methodology to peanut proteins was accepted for publication in Allergy. Congrats to collaborators from the Foo lab, as well as those from the Mueller research group at NIH. Thank you for involving us in such an intriguing nanomaterial application! i

Ella, Scarlett and GHT attended ChemCon 2026 at UNB Fredericton. Ella presented an oral presentation on her ongoing work into photocatalytic pollution control and received amazing feedback on her findings!

GHT and StFX Industry Liaison Officer, Hana Nelson, attended the NetZero ECT Innovation Floor at Pier 21 in Halifax to showcase the excited work taking place in the GHT and EB groups on light-induced clean fuel generation.
